Barrington Elementary School Parent Teacher Organization Code of Conduct
The Barrington Elementary School Parent Teacher Organization (PTO) is committed to fostering a safe, respectful, and inclusive environment for all members of our school community. As such, we expect all individuals, including guests, students, and volunteers, to adhere to the following code of conduct at all PTO events and activities:
Respect and Courtesy: Treat all individuals with kindness, respect, and courtesy, regardless of differences in opinions, backgrounds, or beliefs.
Inclusivity: Embrace diversity and inclusivity by welcoming individuals of all races, ethnicities, cultures, religions, genders, sexual orientations, abilities, and socio-economic backgrounds.
Collaboration: Work collaboratively with fellow parents, teachers, staff, and volunteers to support the mission and goals of the PTO and enhance the educational experience of all students.
Communication: Communicate openly, honestly, and respectfully with others, listening attentively and considering diverse perspectives.
Confidentiality: Respect the confidentiality of sensitive information shared within the PTO, including discussions, decisions, and personal matters concerning students, families, and staff.
Safety and Security: Prioritize the safety and security of all individuals by following school policies and procedures, including those related to visitor sign-in, supervision of students, and emergency protocols.
Compliance with Policies and Laws: Abide by all applicable school policies, local laws, and regulations governing behavior, conduct, and participation in PTO activities (see especially Barrington School Board policy KFA).
Positive Role Modeling: Serve as positive role models for students by demonstrating honesty, integrity, responsibility, and good citizenship in all interactions and activities.
Expectations for Guests:
Guests are expected to adhere to the PTO's code of conduct and contribute positively to the event or activity.
Guests should follow any guidelines or instructions provided by PTO members or event organizers and volunteers.
Guests are encouraged to engage respectfully with students, parents, teachers, staff members, and volunteers.
Guests are expected to observe the posted beginning and ending times of all events.
Expectations for Students:
Students are expected to demonstrate respectful and responsible behavior at all times during PTO events and activities.
Students should follow the instructions of teachers, staff members, and volunteers, and adhere to school rules and expectations.
Students should treat others with kindness, compassion, and consideration, fostering a welcoming and inclusive environment for all.
Expectations for Volunteers:
Volunteers are expected to fulfill their assigned roles and responsibilities to the best of their ability, demonstrating reliability, punctuality, and commitment.
Volunteers should collaborate effectively with fellow volunteers, teachers, staff members, and PTO leaders, communicating any concerns or issues promptly.
Volunteers should maintain professionalism and confidentiality, respecting the privacy of students, families, and staff members.
Volunteers should receive appropriate training and support to perform their duties effectively and safely.
Failure to comply with this code of conduct may result in corrective actions, including but not limited to verbal warnings, removal from the event or activity, or suspension of participation in future PTO activities. The PTO reserves the right to take appropriate measures to address behavior that violates this code and jeopardizes the well-being of our school community.
By participating in PTO events and activities, individuals agree to abide by this code of conduct and contribute positively to the goals and objectives of the Barrington Elementary School Parent Teacher Organization.
